While on tour in Ukrain, Sir Elton John lost his heart to 14 month old toddler Lev. The legendary singer and his long time gay partner David Furnish were eager to adopt the child (who is at an orphanage where most kids there have lost their parents to AIDS). "Having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him," he said. "I don't know how we do that, but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David's heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home." However, Ukranian adoption laws have come in the way of giving hope to an orphaned infant. The law strictly prohibits unmarried individuals to adopt and even married couples over 45 years older than the child are denied the right to adopt. Above all, Ukrainian laws are hard against same-sex couples. The only way Elton and David will get to take home the child is if the President of Ukraine allows it; then they will have to take in Lev’s brother also.
