Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker were awarded the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) for best acting last night for their stunning performance in The Queen and The Last King of Scotland respectively.
The Queen, directed by Stephen Frears, also bagged the award for the best picture. Mirren and Whitaker have also won the Golden Globe awards for best acting in motion-picture dramas category last month.
Spanish movie Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro took the best foreign language film award. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Babel won the award for best music. The British director Paul Greengrass picked the best director award for United 93, the story about the ill-fated flight that was hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001, and later crashed.
Alan Arkin was honoured with the best supporting actor award for Little Miss Sunshine while Jennifer Hudson won the best supporting actress award for Dreamgirls. Casino Royale, which had nine nominations this year, was left with just one technical award for sound. This year's ceremony was held at the Royal Opera House to mark the 60th anniversary of the BAFTAs. Our own Rang De Basanti, remained an also-ran.
