In a new TV documentary about her life, pop star Christina Aguilera has revealed the kind of physical and mental trauma her father put her family through when she was very young. She talks about how her dad, a US Army Sergeant, had abused her, her mom and her sister Rachel. "I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things -- a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. Growing up, I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from," Christina says in the documentary, while her mum Shelley recalls the time when she was horrified when she found a four-year-old Aguilera with blood dripping from her chin, "I scooped her up and said, 'Oh my God. What's wrong?' She told me, 'Daddy wanted to take a nap and I made too much noise' It was terrible."
Shelley eventually mustered the courage to leave her husband. She and her daughters moved in with her mother and it was only then that they began to live happily. Christina’s dad has begged forgiveness, but she is sure she does not want to have anything to do with him ever again. "I let him back into my life briefly but I soon realised that he is not necessary in my life," she says.
