David Blaine has created a new record for holding his breath under water. The unparalleled illusionist held his breath for an astonishing 17 minutes and 4 seconds in a huge water tank before a live audience on the Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday.
Blaine stated that this had been a life-long dream for him; he managed to break the previous record of 16 minutes and 32 seconds, making this a momentous event in his life. He said, "I really thought I was not going to make it. At minute 12, I felt the pain coming, and by minute 14, it was overwhelming. This was a whole other level of pain. I still feel as if somebody hit me in the stomach with the hardest punch they could."
Two years ago, when David tried the same feat, he broke into convulsions and had to be pulled out of the tank. This time round, he was well-prepared and made his long-time wish a reality.
