The most happening movie of these days is Iron Man. Now it looks like we have another movie which will be equally talked about – Hancock. This Will Smith starrer looks very promising from the promos.
The movie has the following taglines:
There are heroes. There are superheroes. And then there’s…
He is saving the world whether we like it or not.
Meet the superhero everybody loves to hate.
All these taglines will make you think that this is another spoof on superhero genre movies. You are wrong if you thought so. This is indeed an action movie, but with a tinge of humour and quirkiness that is peculiar only to Will Smith. The movie also stars Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron.
In this movie, Will Smith portrays an alcoholic, carefree, lazy vagabond. But he possesses superpowers and is on a mission to save those who are in peril. Unfortunately, he is so drunk during his superhero endeavours that he leaves behind a lot of collateral damage. Naturally, everyone is annoyed by this and despises him. One day, he saves a corporate PR, played by Jason Bateman, who feels indebted to him and promises to rebuild his image. He teaches him how to dress like a superhero, how to give interviews like a superhero, and how to behave in public. And then quirky Hancock falls for his wife, played by Charlize Theron.
This film’s script was rejected by many directors; some found it fit only for spoofs; others labeled it a flimsy action movie touching the fringes of spoof. But director Peter Berg found it between the two subjects, with a perfect balance of comedy and action. He thought this script is a good way to herald a new superhero. And thus Hancock happened. Will Smith was the director's first choice as he is very well-known for his quirkiness and sense of humour.
