The much-hyped movie Iron Man was released on May 2, 2008. It has been doing very well since its release and has achieved the most coveted status that every film aims to achieve – the “house full status”. And it looks like it is on the verge of becoming a grand blockbuster movie. Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. have done a lot of homework for this movie and now they are truly happy when they are reaping the benefits and raking in the profits.
The film is about multimillionaire playboy Tony Stark, a weapons manufacturer, who is captured by terrorists and forced to build weapons for them. But he has other plans – plans of building an armoured flying suit and escaping from their captivity. He does it with the help of a surgeon who saves his life by performing an improvised operation on him.
Stark is unconscious, injured by shrapnel wounds when Dr. Yinsen treats him, placing an electromagnet in his chest to hold the fragments of shrapnel in one place, preventing them from piercing his heart. Stark escapes from the clutches of terrorists with the help of the "Iron Suit" he invents and returns to America. He undergoes a change of heart having watched thousands of young soldiers die by weapons manufactured by him. He decides to stop manufacturing weapons and work on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology instead.
But his change of heart is not accepted by his business partners who try to get rid of him. But Tony builds a much more sophisticated flying armour suit equipped with all that it takes to fight evil and he wins, thereby announcing his arrival as a superhero Iron Man.
The film looks like an epic in motion. Robert Downey has built his frame to a muscular status to feature as a superhero. He has essayed a marvellous performance in this movie. Jon Favreau’s (who also plays Hogan in the movie) direction coupled with Robert Downey’s acting skills and a splendid support cast that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Shaun Thoub, makes this movie incredibly good. The main attractions of this film are Robert Downey and “The Suit”. The suit designers have paid all the attention to even the most minute part of the suit. It can be said that both Robert and the suit complement each other and excel when they strike heroic poses.
The movie has given a new dimension to the super hero genre. This is a must-watch movie. Galatta is planning to run an exclusive feature on this movie which will hit the site very soon.
