Kathryn Bigelow has been honoured with the top prize at the Directors' Guild of America Awards for her gritty war drama The Hurt Locker. One of her prime competitors for the awards was her ex-husband James Cameron, whose Avatar is doing famously at various awards and theatres across the world. Other nominees for the award included Lee Daniels (Precious based on the novel Push by Sapphire), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air) and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds). She proved better than the men and in fact became the first woman to win the coveted award.
"This is the most incredible moment of my life. This is amazing. I'm so deeply stunned, honoured and awed," said Kathryn, truly beaming.
