Actor Kiefer Sutherland will have to serve a jail term of 48 days on charges of his drunken driving case. The star of the hit television series 24 pleaded 'no contest' to the charges on Tuesday.
Sutherland has agreed to serve 30 days for driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent and 18 days for violating his probation for a 2004 drunken driving case. The 40-year-old actor has been ordered to appear on December 21 for serving 18 days jail term, the day, when his show begins its winter production break.
Sutherland will have to serve the 30 days jail term by July 1, 2008. He has also been ordered to attend alcohol education classes for 18 months and weekly alcohol therapy sessions for six months. The actor has further been banned from driving for six months.
The son of Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, Kiefer is well-known for his role of Jack Bauer, the terrorist-fighting secret agent in the television series 24, which won him a best actor Emmy last year.
