Rang de Basanti has been chosen as India’s entry for the Oscars, this year. This was announced by the Film Federation of India headed by director Basu Chatterji.
This year’s nominations included seven Hindi films, one Marathi and one Telugu film. These movies were Rakesh Roshan's Krrish, Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Naseeruddin Shah's Yun Hota To Kya Hota, Raju Hirani's Lage Raho Munnabhai, Rakyesh Mehra's Rang De Basanti, Vishal Bharadwaj's Omkara, Madhur Bhandarkar's Corporate, Marathi film Bhook and a Telugu film Amma Chepindi.
Range de Basanti stars Aamir Khan.The movie also casts Siddharth and Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan.It revolves around the real life story of an IAF fighter pilot, Abhijit Gadgil who dies in an MIG crash. The film focuses on the corruption involved in defense deals. This is the second movie nominated for Oscars in which Aamir plays the lead role. His movie, Lagaan was nominated in 2001 for the Oscars in the foreign film category.
The producer of the movie Rang de Basanti and UTV chairman Ronnie Screwvala said he was looking forward to flying the Indian flag at the Oscars.
