Acclaimed Indian director and cinematographer Santosh Sivan will release his debut English language film, Before the Rains, in Los Angeles and New York on May 9, followed by a national release on May 16.
The late Cathy Robin penned the film set in southern India of the late 1930's against the backdrop of growing nationalism.

Rahul Bose plays T.K. Neelan, a Western-educated idealistic Indian finding himself torn between his ambitious future and his loyalty to the past when the locals uncover an adulterous affair between his boss, Henry Moores (Linus Roache), a British colonialist trying to build a road to expand his spice harvesting business, and his married Indian housemaid Sajani (Nandita Das).
The 32nd Toronto International Film Festival saw the world premiere of the 98-minute film in September last year.
British actor Roache said his work in Before the Rains was his best-ever in his two decades in the film industry. He had attracted media attention for his performance in the BBC television series Seaforth (1994).
