The Chinese government has taken great offence to Sharon Stone’s comment that the recent earthquake that killed thousands in the country was "bad karma" for Beijing`s policies in Tibet.
At least 68,000 people died in the May 12th earthquake, which occurred months after unrest in Tibet that sparked an international outcry over Beijing’s handling of the predominantly Buddhist region, which Communist troops entered in 1950. Sharon’s remark has been taken to heart and it has been announced that her movies will not be released in theatres across the country. It is also said that Christian Dior boutiques in Beijing department stores have removed advertisements featuring Sharon, who has a modeling contract with the luxury retailer.
Sharon Stone was immediate to apologize and those remarks were also carried in the Chinese media. “In the course of the interview, I made inappropriate remarks and for any harm created towards the Chinese people, I am extremely sad and apologize,” the Beijing News quoted her as saying in a Chinese translation of her statement.
