Tom Cruise was rather upset that his next movie, Valkyrie, which was supposed to hit screens this summer, got pushed to this fall. But now, word has it that the movie will be out only in 2009, and the actor is absolutely distraught.
This movie, that tells the story of the 1944 assassination plot against Adolf Hitler, has been facing hurdles right from the outset. The delay has not only dealt a blow to the actor, but also his more recent incarnation as a movie mogul at United Artists (UA), the studio which made the film. Tom is a stakeholder in UA, which was originally founded by Charlie Chaplin and other stars. It has since passed through several different owners until Cruise re-launched it as a major studio in 2006.
Given the fact that test audiences were unimpressed by the movie, a critic in Hollywood declared, “Valkyrie is dead”, while another stated that the film’s problems could also wreck the revival of UA. Tom, however disappointed he may be, has faith the movie will see the light of day and rake in rave reviews. Keep the faith, Tom!
