Wesley Snipes owes the state $2.8million in unreturned tax bills from 1999 to 2001. He was condemned by Judge William Terrell Hodges for exhibiting a “history of contempt over a period of time” for US tax laws.
Snipes however, pleaded to be forgiven for his costly errs, and asked that he be given some more time to pay up. He added that his lack of proper education was the reason for his having landed in such deep trouble. While his lawyers tried to plead his cause by producing letters from prominent Hollywood celebs who vouched for his good character, the prosecution remained unmoved. In the end Snipes was sentenced to three years imprisonment in a prison at New Jersey.
