Hollywood film Borat is banned in Russia. The reason is that the film is portraying Kazakhstan in an uncivilized, backward country. This made the leaders of Kazakhstan unhappy and also the neighbouring country Russia. So Russia did not want to develop any enmity with Kazakhstan. This is the first film that has been banned especially for non-pornographic reasons. The film was banned in Russia because of the political tie up between Russia and Kazakhstan. Russia's Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography has stated that they will not give permission for an offensive film to be released. Vadim Ivanov, theatrical sales director at Twentieth Century Fox says the film may affect some viewers and some of the approaches in film may be teasing and irritating to some particular religious groups.
