New Line Cinema is working on the remake of the 1981 science fiction/ action film Escape from New York. New Line has already signed Scottish star Gerard Butler who will play the role of Snake Plissken, the one-eyed convict who must rescue the President of the United States from an inescapable maximum security prison formerly known as Manhattan. The original film starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken.
Talks are on with Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wiseman for directing the remake of the classic John Carpenter film. The script, penned by Ken Nolan, combines an original story for Plissken merged with the story of the original movie.
The movie will be produced by Neal Mortiz. The director of the original film, John Carpenter, Sichler, Ron Halpern and Ori Marmur will be executive producers of the film.
Die Hard 4.0 was well received at the box office, grossing an amount of $335 million worldwide. Len Wiseman is also known for his film Underworld which was co-written and directed by him and its sequel Underworld: Evolution.
Scottish actor Gerard Butler is best known for his films 300 and The Phantom of the Opera.
