Well known television and radio personality, Johnny Grant, more popular as the honorary mayor of Hollywood is dead. Grant, 84, was found dead in his room on Wednesday evening at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Reportedly he died out of natural causes.
Grant, who started his career hosting a local radio show in 1939, moved on to cover Hollywood on radio and television, worked as a disc jockey, acted in movies and TV. Some of his films include White Christmas, The Babe Ruth Story and The Oscar.
Grant hosted several Hollywood Walk of Fame inductions and is known for producing the Hollywood Christmas Parade. In 1980, The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honoured him with the title of Honorary Mayor of Commerce. He played host to red-carpet arrivals at the Oscars.
Grant has won the Emmy Award thrice. Mr. Grant never married.
