Academy award winning actress Julia Roberts has been chosen for the 2007 American Cinematheque award. The award is presented annually to an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the moving picture. Those who have received the award since its inception in 1986 include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, Mel Gibson, Eddie Murphy, Bruce Willis, etc.
The Pretty Woman star presented the 21st award to George Clooney last year. Roberts will receive the 22nd annual award in a gala function to be held on Oct. 12 at the Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom.
The model-turned-actress rose to fame with her movie Pretty Woman and won the Best Actress Academy Award in 2001 for playing the title character in Erin Brockovich.
