After playing the role of a UK-based shop owner of Pakistani origin and conservative ideals in East is East in 1999, Om Puri is geared up to wear the character of General Zia Ul Haq in Mike Nicholas’s Charlie Wilson’s War. Sharing screen space with Puri are none other than Hollywood biggies Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
Charlie Wilson’s War, which highly criticizes American foreign policy will bring forth the significant role played by America during the birth of terrorism. Describing his role in the film, Om Puri said that even though he has a small role to play, his character Zia is an integral part of the film, as he cuts deals to supply arms to Afghanistan.
Om Puri seems to be loaded with films based on terrorism as he will also be seen in Jag Mundhra’s Shoot on Sight, which highlights the recent growth of terrorism in the UK. The film also features Naseeruddin Shah and shows Puri playing a fundamentalist maulvi.
