Tom Cruise has been banned from shooting his upcoming film, Valkyrie, at the Bendlerblock memorial site in Germany. The movie, being directed by Bryan Singer and starring Tom Cruise in the lead role, is based on the July plot of German officials to assassinate Hitler. Cruise plays the role of the leader of the plot, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who was executed in 1944 for attempting to assassinate Adolf Hitler in the plot code-named Valkyrie.
According to the Germany Finance Ministry, the movie can be shot in any location in Germany except the, Bendlerblock. Bendlerblock is a military site which includes a memorial to Von Stauffenberg, who was executed at the site in July 1944. The Defense Ministry had earlier stated that the movie should not be allowed to shoot in any of the military locations. The Finance Ministry has also said that the decision was not due to the star’s belief in Scientology religion. (Scientology is considered as a moneymaking sect by the German authorities.)
