The ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America has affected several Hollywood films, causing production delays. Warner Bros. has postponed the shooting of their already delayed Shantaram, which was scheduled to begin production in February. Mira Nair’s adaptation of the Gregory Roberts novel, “Shanataram”, stars Johnny Depp in the lead.
Weinstein Company has called off the production of its upcoming film, Nine, a musical by director Rob Marshall, starring Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, and Marion Cotilard.
Angels and Demons, the prequel to Tom Hanks’ Da Vinci Code is the first movie hit by the Hollywood screenwriters strike. The movie directed by Ron Howard will now hit theatres in 2009. Pinkville by director Oliver Stone and Eddie Murphy’s new movie, Nowhereland have also been delayed due to the WGA strike.
The production of these movies has been called off due to the problems with the script writers which would now be resolved only after the strike.
